Dear Friends,

It is our great happiness getting an opportunity to share that ASMITA has already completed its first decade of activism for Nepali women’s human rights and empowerment. Now, we are in the position to evaluate society and Nepali women. At this moment of 12 years of experience, we deserve to say - ‘ASMITA has played a vital role to make women’s  human right issues more public and national concerned issues, and it has become a single great source and milestone for information regarding women and gender issues in Nepal.’

Nepali women have been struggling for their equal status since more than 50 years though their movement has been continuous and more vocal from the undeclaration of International Women’s Year in 1975.

Unfortunately, any great positive change in their lives could not be seen in those 25 years. Since last 12 years, ASMITA has also been relentlessly the part of this movement. There are still so many things of legal reform, economic, educational and health security, ensurment of human rights and other strategies of empowerment to be done for Nepali women. Therefore, till the time of full enjoyment of women’s human rights and empowerment in Nepal, ASMITA has great and tough responsibility to support this movement.

We are sincerely grateful to those national, regional and international organizations which have supported ASMITA morally, emotionally and financially to carry on this responsibility so far. Similarly, we strongly believe that we will definitely get such helping hands and accompany from the genuine organizations /agencies which are really committed for the substantial change in the lives of women, minorities and oppressed people.
