Electronic Media

Electronic media is a very powerful means of communication. Now, newly established different FM (Frequency Modulation) radio channels and private metro channels are  attracting a large mass towards them in Nepal. It has been seen that there impact on audience is increasing day by day. Therefore, ASMITA which is always committed to work for women' s empowerment through media, also decided to use the electronic media to fulfill its goal.

Accordingly, the organization had started to work in this area since 2000.  Since then, ASMITA has been continuously producing a weekly 'Asmita Radio Magazine Shakti' which is broadcasted from Radio Sagarmatha FM.  'Shakti' means 'power' and this symbolizes 'women's power' here.

This2 program comprises various segments like discussions on different women's issues; feature on current social issues from gender perspective; interesting, inspiring and useful tips for women; self expression of different women personalities.

Later, we are planning to broadcast this program from the national radio channel Radio Nepal (AM) which is accessible to listen throughout the country. To purchase the air time of Radio Nepal is very expensive and it costs about $ 15 per minute. Again, it is almost impossible to get the commercial advertisement for such informative and educational program. So the organization is looking for the resources for this program.

Similarly we are also doing very hard homework to produce a program for TV channel. If we can get good and issue sensitive partners, the program can be produced and broadcasted soon. Now in the context of Nepal,  we have found this audio visual channel as a strong tool to spread the message for women empowerment. Since the organization has already some trained human resources for radio and audio-visual programs, we must effectively use this mediums.
